Aortic valve repair is preferrable to aortic valve replacement whenever possible. Advantages include longer lasting results and freedom from using blood thinners (coumadin) after the surgery.

The ability to repair an aortic valve depends on a large number of criteria, and for many patients, aortic valve replacement is a better option.
