Disease of the tricuspid valve is less common than other heart valves. When there is a problem with the tricuspid valve, tricuspid valve repair is typically preferred over tricuspid valve replacement surgery.
Tricuspid valve repair surgery typically involves an annuloplasty, which is the placement of a ring around the tricuspid valve. This ring will reinforce the valve and restore function. Repair of a native tricuspid valve has advantages over replacement, including longer durability and freedom from blood thinners, also known as anticoagulants.
If tricuspid valve repair is not possible, our surgeons will replace the tricuspid valve with a new valve. The decision to replace or repair a tricuspid valve is a complex decision. For more information, please call (888) 565-8224 to schedule a consultation with one of our surgeons.
